The theme for the 2008 Fargo-Moorhead Earth Week is "Learn Green. Live Green." This page has been developed to help you Learn to be green. Below are some links and facts to help you better understand the importance of doing your part.

General Facts:

  • The average home generates 25 pounds of toxic waste each year from household cleaners.

Conserve Water

  • The average faucet puts out about 3-5 gallons of water each minute.
  • It takes about 72 billion gallons of water a year, worldwide, just to make the empty bottles that hold water.

Save Energy

  • A compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) will last up to 13 times longer than a regular light bulb.
  • One person taking public transportation can save 200 gallons of gasoline per year.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

  • One mature tree can be saved by recycling 50 pounds of newspaper.
  • Plastic shopping bags take 500 or more years to break down.

Habitat/Wildlife

  • Scientists estimate that 1 in every 6 species of animals is threatened with extinction.
  • North Dakota and Minnesota have 24 plant and animal species that are threatened or endangered.

Your members can benefit from what we have to share!!

Why? As part of the 2008 Earth Week celebration, we want to provide community members with accurate, relevant, timely information provided by local experts. This year’s theme is “Learn Green, Live Green”.

What do we have to offer? Presentations on a variety of topics for a healthier community.

Topics: biking & walking, frogs, green architecture, habitat, Habitat ReStore, mass transit, rain gardens, rain barrels, recycling, soil, Red River, Shaklee, trees, xeriscaping, and more!

Who are we? We are a coalition of environmental service providers who have relevant information for your group.

When and Where? At your regularly scheduled time and location in April.

How? Contact Moorhead Community Education at 218-284-3430 and we’ll do our best to match your requested time, location and specific topic with a local speaker.
